New Year celebrations and Islam

As Salamu Alaikum wa rahmatullah, Our purpose of creation : “I have created not the jinn and men except that they should worship Me (Alone). I seek not any provision from them nor do I ask that they should feed Me. Verily, Allâh is the All-Provider, Owner of Power, Most Strong.” (51:56-58) Dear readers, our purpose of life should be very clear to us, especially, we been muslims, shud be very much aware of it , in every walk of our life of our living. Do you think we are really aware , why we are here ? Lets’a anyalyse thru one example, infact live example before us – yes its of New Year celebrations, as the title of this article explains. Any act, any act, of a muslim shud be in accordance to Qur’an and Sunnah. Hope you all agree here that we are to abide to the laws of Allah swt. Here are notes of the sheikh : Ibn Katheer (may Allah have mercy on him) said: ‘So whoever hopes for the Meeting with his Lord’ means his reward; ‘let him work righteousness’ means, that which is in accor

Love and hate for the sake of Allah swt

As Salamu Alaikum wa rahmatullah One of the best read article. May Allah swt help us to practice it. Ten Statements from the Salaf on Love and Hate for Allah’s Sake These are collected in al-Ghazzali’s ‘Ihya’ ‘Ulum ad-Din’ (2/195 onwards): 1 – ‘Umar bin al-Khattab said: “If one of you is blessed with affection from his brother, he should hold onto that as tightly as possible, as it is quite rare for one to be blessed with this.” 2 – ‘Umar also said: “ Nobody is given anything besides his Islam better than a righteous friend.” 3 – ‘Ali bin Abi Talib said: “Tend to your brothers, as they are your sustenance in this world and the next. Do you not hear the saying of the people of Hell: {“Now, we have neither intercessors nor close friends to help us!”} [ash-Shu'ara'; 100-1]?” 4 – ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar said: “By Allah, if I fasted all day without eating, prayed all night without sleeping, spent all of my wealth in the Path of Allah, died the day I died, but had no love in my heart for

Baeless traditions during Muharram

As Salamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh, Today, we shall insha Allah, look at the baseless traditions and misconceptions people hold during this month. Here's a reminder that Prophet sallal lahualayhi wa sallam, stated Muharram as one of the four sanctified months. There are many wrong traditions associated with the Day of Aashooraa and Muharram, which have nothing to do with the Shariah. We have to guard ourselves from falling into these wrong traditions and bidah because this is also sin. 1) Some other people attribute the sanctity of Aashooraa to the martyrdom of Husain, RA. No doubt, the story of Husain, RA is one of the most tragic episodes of our history. Yet, the sanctity of Ashura cannot be ascribed to this event for the simple reason that the sanctity of Ashura was established during the days of the Prophet (pbuh) , much earlier than the birth of his grandson Husain. 2) Some people consider Muharram an evil or unlucky month, for Husain, RA was killed in it. So t

Month of Muharram and we

by Mufti Muhammad Taqi Uthmaani Saheb Muharram is the month with which the Muslims begin their lunar Hijrah Calendar. It is one of the four sanctified months about which the Holy Qur'an says, "The number of the months according to Allah is twelve months (mentioned) in the Book of Allah on the day in which He created heavens and the earth. Among these (twelve months) there are four sanctified". These four months, according to the authentic traditions are the months of Zulqa'dah, Zulhijjah, Muharram and Rajab. All the commentators of the Holy Qur'an are unanimous on this point, because the Holy Prophet(sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) in his sermon on the occasion of his last Hajj, has declared: "One year consists of twelve months, of which four are sanctified months, three of them are in sequence; Zulqa'dah, Zulhijjah, Muharram, and the fourth is Rajab." The specific mention of these four months does not mean that any other month has no sanctity, because

Living a single life

Living a Single Life Weapon of the Believers By Fatimah Asmaal During my first trip to Makkah as a 24-year-old, I met a mother who, 11 years after giving birth to her first child, desperately wanted another baby. Three years after going through a divorce, I too was desperate to get married again. When I told this sister about the feelings of disillusionment and loneliness I was experiencing, she told me how she was addressing her need during her time in this blessed city and advised me to do the same. She told me that in every step she took during her pilgrimage, she would fervently make du`aa' (supplication) to Allah, asking Him to bless her with another child. She said she did this during Sa`i (walking) between Safa and Marwah and that actually everywhere she went she reminded herself to make this du`aa'. She suggested that I too should implore Almighty Allah in a similar manner. I left the sister's hotel room, with a spring in my step, on a similar mission. Supplicat

Is the Duaa of a Haji Accepted for 40 days After Doing Hajj ?

As Salamu Alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh This article is of Asma-bint-Shameem "Hajj Mabrook!" exclaimed my friend excitedly. "Continue to make duaa for us as you're still in the zone!" "Huh? In the zone.....what ZONE ??" I asked perplexed. "You know.....you have just come back from hajj and Allaah will answer all your prayers up to 40 days after you come back from Hajj." she explained. "Uh....wait a second," I said. "Where does it say that.…is it in the Quraan or Hadeeth?" "I dont know" she said shrugging her shoulders. "I have always just heard people say that." Subhaan Allaah! Making a statement about the Deen of Allaah...based on what people are saying?!! You cant do that! There is NO ayah in the Quraan that says anything about the duaa of Haajjees being accepted up to 40 days. And there is NO hadeeth of the Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) that says that either. NOR was such a statemen

A Conversation with a Jinn (Demons): The Exorcism Experience

As Salamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh, Here's a good sharing, insha Allah, shall be a great reminder for us. I don't know the source of its sharing and who the author is, but indeed a very good article. Describes her attempt at exorcism and the conversations that occurred during this experience. Please note that this questions of fiqhi nature may not be addressed, as this was not intended to be a course on the methodology of exorcism. Finally, please do not try this at home!* We read and we believe in every word of Noble Qu’ran and the ahadeeth of the Prophet, sallallahu alihi wasalam. We believe, without ever doubting, in all that Qur’an and ahadeeth talks about although we may never witness it. However, sometimes by Allah’s Mercy, we get to experience something further which affirms our faith and satisfies our hearts, and we thank Allah azzawjal for allowing us such an opportunity. It is for this reason that I want to share an incident, hoping that may this be a bene

Praising any one in his presence !!!

As Salamu Alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh Last time, when one of the sisters-in-Islam, praised me, i reminded her in simple words to add the words - Allah swt knows the best. She felt very bad and said that i embarrassed her in public while i cud do it private. I was of the intention that since its a very general talk, and we all say such & since many read it while its open over to all, we can make this sunnah alive. I was looking for the hadith very much to share it their, and alhamdulilah, Allah swt sent it to me thru a source, i never imagined. A little boy came to me by evening and handed a book saying that he thought to give it to me, when he found this at his aunt's house. Very first page of that magazine, had this hadith and its explanation If she's reading this, hope i cleared her my intention. May Allah swt reward her, for, i got this thought to share this topic over blog. Anyways, for all other readers, insha Allah, today we shall learn the seriousness of pra

Abu Hanifah, the Boat and the athiest!

Image
As Salamu Alaikum wa rahmatullah Today we shall read an intresting story. Insha Allah, it shall help us in dawah with an aethist. Long ago in the city of Baghdad, there was a Muslim empire. On one side of the River Tigris were the royal palaces and on the other side was the city. The Muslims were gathered in the Royal Palace when an athiest approached them. He said to them, 'I don't believe in God, there cannot be a God, you cannot hear Him or see Him, you're wasting your time! Bring me your best debator and I will debate this issue with him.' The best debator at the time was Imam Abu Hanifah Rahimullah. A messenger from amongst the Muslims was sent over the River Tigris to the city, where Abu Hanifah Rahimullah was, in order to tell him about the athiest who was awaiting him. On crossing the River Tigris, the messenger conveyed the message to Abu Hanifah Rahimullah saying, 'Oh Abu Hanifah, an athiest is waiting for you, to debate you, please come!' Abu Hanifah

Why our prayers are not answered

Ibraheem Ibn Adham was approached by a group of people. They asked him about the Saying of Allaah the Most High: “Call upon your Lord and He will answer you.” [Ghaafir:60] They said: “We supplicate to Allaah but He does not respond to (our invocations) . ”[1] Ibraheem Ibn Adham replied: You know Allaah but yet you do not obey Him. You recite the Quraan but you do not act upon it. You know about the shaytaan (devil) but you agree with him. You claim that you love the Messenger of Allaah but you abandon his sunnah. You claim that you love (to enter) paradise but you do not act for it. You claim that you fear the hell fire but you fail to abstain from disobedience. You say that death is truly (approaching) but you do not prepare for it. You are preoccupied with other people’s faults but you do not analyse your own. You eat the sustenance that Allaah provides (you with) but you show no thanks. You bury your dead but you do not contemplate over that.[2] [1] Abu Huraira narrated that: The Me

Mistakes made on Eid

As Salamu Alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh, Kindly share this article amongst your friends and relatives, before eid. Insha Allah, it shall be a source of guidance for whoever astray. I wish our sisters in Islam to kindly pay attention to the to the paragraph with its subheading- Some women going out wearing perfume and makeup, and without veils. I see most of our muslimahs, being least bothered when the fragnance of their perfume, reaches even non-mahrams. Kindly remind yourselves and the other sisters in Islam that such women are stated as - ADULTERESS by Prophet Muhammad {Sallal lahu alayhi wasallam} . Let us also be careful that the make-up we wear be not seen to non-mahrams. These little things matter alot in our aakhirah. Let us be serious with it. MISTAKES MADE ON EID We would like to point out some things that some people do out of ignorance of the laws of Allaah and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). These include the follow

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala Say What, did you think that We created you in mere idle play, and that you would not be returned to Us? But, high exalted is God, the King; the True! There is no god but He, the Lord of the Noble Throne. [al-Muminun 23: 115-116] The Prophet (SAW) said, "The [example of the] value of this world in comparison to [that of] the Hereafter is as if you dip a finger in the ocean and then pull it out. See how much water sticks to it." Imam Qurtubi( raheemahullah-May Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala have mercy upon him) gave the following advice in his Tadhkirah: “ Where is the wealth that you have gathered and prepared for hardship and terror? There is no money in your hand when you are dying. The wealth and pride that you enjoyed have been replaced with humiliation and poverty. What has become of you, O’ prisoner of your burdens, O’ you who have been taken away from your family and your home? What was it that concealed the right path fr

An inspiring story of patience and its fruitful results

One of the wise men of the past said: “I passed by a village in Egypt seeking to engage in Ribat (guarding the Muslim frontier against the disbelievers), when suddenly I passed by a man in sitting in the dark. His was missing his eyes, as well as his hands and legs. He was suffering all types of difficulty, while saying: “Praise be to You, Allah – a praising that combines the praises of all of Your Creation – for what You have blessed me with, and preferred me greatly over many of those whom You have Created.” So, I said to him: “For what blessing are you praising Allah? For what preference are you thanking Him for? By Allah, I do not see any type of difficulty except that you are experiencing it!” So, he said: “Do you not see what has happened to me? By Allah, if He were to cause the heavens to rain fire down upon me, and I were to be burned up because of it, and He were to command the mountains to crush me, and He were to command the oceans to drown me, I would not increase except in

Admit your faults and don't be arrogant

As Salamu Alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh Many problems that cause enmity to continue for a year or two years, or perhaps for life, can easily be solved by one person saying to another, “I made a mistake, I am sorry.” “Yes, I did not make it to the appointment.” “Yes, I made a bad joke.” “Yes, I said hurtful things.” Be quick to put out the fire before it is set ablaze. Say, “I am sorry. I owe you an apology.” You would only feel better after apologizing. There occurred an argument between Abu Dharr, and Bilal-may Allah be pleased with them both- and even though they were both Companions of the Prophet (SAW), they were still human. During the argument, Abu Dharr became angry and said to Bilal, “O son of a black woman!” Thereupon, Bilal complained to the Messenger of Allah (SAW). The Prophet (SAW) called Abu Dharr and said, “Did you insult Bilal?” He replied, “Yes.” The Prophet (SAW) said, “Did you mention his mother?” He replied, “When someone is insulted, usually his father and m

The fear of accoutability

As Salamu Alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh, Umar RA was very well-known for his JUSTICE. He did not spare even his son. Abu Shahma (RA) was a son of Umar (RA) by Luhayya al-Yamaniyya. His real name was Abd al-Rahman al- Asghar or al-Awsat (RA) . He fought in the battles in Egypt. After the conquest of Egypt he built a house for himself in Fustat. One day in the company of a friend he inadvertently drank wine and became unconscious. The following day he went with his friend to Amr bin Al Aas (RA), confessed their guilt, and wanted to be punished. Amr bin Al Aas (RA) said that as they had drunk the wine inadvertently, and were feeling repentant, that was enough and no further punishment was called for. Abu Shahma (RA) did not wish to avail of the benefit of inadvertence. He insisted that he should be punished according to law, failing which he would bring the matter to the notice of the Caliph. Thereupon Arm bin Al Aas (RA) inflicted the usual punishment of lashes in the compound of

Special days of special month

As Salamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh, Dear brothers and sisters in Islam, insha Allah, very soon we will be into the holy month of Dhul-Hijjah, and holy days of first ten days in this month. Here's an article that shall be a reminder for us. WRITTEN BY ABDULFATTAH OLAJIDE Dhul-Hijjah, the twelfth and last month of the Islamic lunar calendar begins next Wednesday or Thursday Isha Allah. The month of Dhul-Hijjah is loaded with abundant blessings, especially during its first ten days. Any Muslim desirous of the good of this world and that of the hereafter cannot afford to neglect or ignore the golden opportunities for worldly and spiritual elevation inherent in the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah. In Qur’an 89:1-2, Allah (SWT) swears by the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, indicating their importance and benefits to believers in Him. In the same vein, the prophet (p.b.u.h) was reported by Ibn Abbaas (may Allah be please with him) as saying: “there are no days during which goo

Battle of Uhud

As Salamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh, Dear Readers, Alhmadullilah, we completed studying Al-Imran, at Qur'an Foundation. Battle of Uhud, left a very deep influence over me. I was so much reflected by it, that browsed to know more and more of this battle. Even had a discussion with a brother {khalifa bhai}. Am sorry i bothered him very much, but i wished even we women participate in such battles. I did not want to limit myselves holding just the intention --. I was advised that why do i not yearn to be "a siddiqah', which is of higher status than a shaheed ! That cooled me a bit though not contended. Hope Heena Ma'm you too are reading this. You wanted me to write articles on my own, and Battle of Uhud, made me to start up. JazakiAllahu khayr for your words of encouragement. Here i thought, i shud share few incidents from Battle of Uhud : My little lines are enclosed in brackets. Dua made by Abdullah ibn Jahsh and his friend Sa'd (radhi Allahu anhu) : {It
