Why our prayers are not answered

Ibraheem Ibn Adham was approached by a group of people. They asked him about the Saying of Allaah the Most High: “Call upon your Lord and He will answer you.” [Ghaafir:60] They said: “We supplicate to Allaah but He does not respond to (our invocations) . ”[1] Ibraheem Ibn Adham replied: You know Allaah but yet you do not obey Him. You recite the Quraan but you do not act upon it. You know about the shaytaan (devil) but you agree with him. You claim that you love the Messenger of Allaah but you abandon his sunnah. You claim that you love (to enter) paradise but you do not act for it. You claim that you fear the hell fire but you fail to abstain from disobedience. You say that death is truly (approaching) but you do not prepare for it. You are preoccupied with other people’s faults but you do not analyse your own. You eat the sustenance that Allaah provides (you with) but you show no thanks. You bury your dead but you do not contemplate over that.[2] [1] Abu Huraira narrated that: The Me

Mistakes made on Eid

As Salamu Alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh, Kindly share this article amongst your friends and relatives, before eid. Insha Allah, it shall be a source of guidance for whoever astray. I wish our sisters in Islam to kindly pay attention to the to the paragraph with its subheading- Some women going out wearing perfume and makeup, and without veils. I see most of our muslimahs, being least bothered when the fragnance of their perfume, reaches even non-mahrams. Kindly remind yourselves and the other sisters in Islam that such women are stated as - ADULTERESS by Prophet Muhammad {Sallal lahu alayhi wasallam} . Let us also be careful that the make-up we wear be not seen to non-mahrams. These little things matter alot in our aakhirah. Let us be serious with it. MISTAKES MADE ON EID We would like to point out some things that some people do out of ignorance of the laws of Allaah and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). These include the follow

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala Say What, did you think that We created you in mere idle play, and that you would not be returned to Us? But, high exalted is God, the King; the True! There is no god but He, the Lord of the Noble Throne. [al-Muminun 23: 115-116] The Prophet (SAW) said, "The [example of the] value of this world in comparison to [that of] the Hereafter is as if you dip a finger in the ocean and then pull it out. See how much water sticks to it." Imam Qurtubi( raheemahullah-May Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala have mercy upon him) gave the following advice in his Tadhkirah: “ Where is the wealth that you have gathered and prepared for hardship and terror? There is no money in your hand when you are dying. The wealth and pride that you enjoyed have been replaced with humiliation and poverty. What has become of you, O’ prisoner of your burdens, O’ you who have been taken away from your family and your home? What was it that concealed the right path fr

An inspiring story of patience and its fruitful results

One of the wise men of the past said: “I passed by a village in Egypt seeking to engage in Ribat (guarding the Muslim frontier against the disbelievers), when suddenly I passed by a man in sitting in the dark. His was missing his eyes, as well as his hands and legs. He was suffering all types of difficulty, while saying: “Praise be to You, Allah – a praising that combines the praises of all of Your Creation – for what You have blessed me with, and preferred me greatly over many of those whom You have Created.” So, I said to him: “For what blessing are you praising Allah? For what preference are you thanking Him for? By Allah, I do not see any type of difficulty except that you are experiencing it!” So, he said: “Do you not see what has happened to me? By Allah, if He were to cause the heavens to rain fire down upon me, and I were to be burned up because of it, and He were to command the mountains to crush me, and He were to command the oceans to drown me, I would not increase except in

Admit your faults and don't be arrogant

As Salamu Alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh Many problems that cause enmity to continue for a year or two years, or perhaps for life, can easily be solved by one person saying to another, “I made a mistake, I am sorry.” “Yes, I did not make it to the appointment.” “Yes, I made a bad joke.” “Yes, I said hurtful things.” Be quick to put out the fire before it is set ablaze. Say, “I am sorry. I owe you an apology.” You would only feel better after apologizing. There occurred an argument between Abu Dharr, and Bilal-may Allah be pleased with them both- and even though they were both Companions of the Prophet (SAW), they were still human. During the argument, Abu Dharr became angry and said to Bilal, “O son of a black woman!” Thereupon, Bilal complained to the Messenger of Allah (SAW). The Prophet (SAW) called Abu Dharr and said, “Did you insult Bilal?” He replied, “Yes.” The Prophet (SAW) said, “Did you mention his mother?” He replied, “When someone is insulted, usually his father and m

The fear of accoutability

As Salamu Alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh, Umar RA was very well-known for his JUSTICE. He did not spare even his son. Abu Shahma (RA) was a son of Umar (RA) by Luhayya al-Yamaniyya. His real name was Abd al-Rahman al- Asghar or al-Awsat (RA) . He fought in the battles in Egypt. After the conquest of Egypt he built a house for himself in Fustat. One day in the company of a friend he inadvertently drank wine and became unconscious. The following day he went with his friend to Amr bin Al Aas (RA), confessed their guilt, and wanted to be punished. Amr bin Al Aas (RA) said that as they had drunk the wine inadvertently, and were feeling repentant, that was enough and no further punishment was called for. Abu Shahma (RA) did not wish to avail of the benefit of inadvertence. He insisted that he should be punished according to law, failing which he would bring the matter to the notice of the Caliph. Thereupon Arm bin Al Aas (RA) inflicted the usual punishment of lashes in the compound of

Special days of special month

As Salamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh, Dear brothers and sisters in Islam, insha Allah, very soon we will be into the holy month of Dhul-Hijjah, and holy days of first ten days in this month. Here's an article that shall be a reminder for us. WRITTEN BY ABDULFATTAH OLAJIDE Dhul-Hijjah, the twelfth and last month of the Islamic lunar calendar begins next Wednesday or Thursday Isha Allah. The month of Dhul-Hijjah is loaded with abundant blessings, especially during its first ten days. Any Muslim desirous of the good of this world and that of the hereafter cannot afford to neglect or ignore the golden opportunities for worldly and spiritual elevation inherent in the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah. In Qur’an 89:1-2, Allah (SWT) swears by the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, indicating their importance and benefits to believers in Him. In the same vein, the prophet (p.b.u.h) was reported by Ibn Abbaas (may Allah be please with him) as saying: “there are no days during which goo

Battle of Uhud

As Salamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh, Dear Readers, Alhmadullilah, we completed studying Al-Imran, at Qur'an Foundation. Battle of Uhud, left a very deep influence over me. I was so much reflected by it, that browsed to know more and more of this battle. Even had a discussion with a brother {khalifa bhai}. Am sorry i bothered him very much, but i wished even we women participate in such battles. I did not want to limit myselves holding just the intention --. I was advised that why do i not yearn to be "a siddiqah', which is of higher status than a shaheed ! That cooled me a bit though not contended. Hope Heena Ma'm you too are reading this. You wanted me to write articles on my own, and Battle of Uhud, made me to start up. JazakiAllahu khayr for your words of encouragement. Here i thought, i shud share few incidents from Battle of Uhud : My little lines are enclosed in brackets. Dua made by Abdullah ibn Jahsh and his friend Sa'd (radhi Allahu anhu) : {It

Conveying salam to Prophet -----

Bismillah Walhamdulillah Was Salaatu Was Salaam 'ala Rasulillah As-Salaam Alaikum Wa-Rahmatullahi Wa-Barakatuhu Please Convey my Salaams to the Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam)" - A wrong practise to send salaam via others. by Asma bint Shameem "Please convey my salaams to the Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) when you go and visit Madeenah." Thats what they said to me as I was leaving for Hajj this year. Some even said, "Take my name personally and say so-and-so has sent you the salaams, O Prophet of Allaah." And it wasnt just a few who requested this. Many, many people asked me to do so. I also know that it was out of sheer love and utmost respect for the Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) that they said this. But my dear brother/sister in Islaam, I have to tell you that this is an action that is NOT prescribed in the Shareeah. Now, I am not saying that sending blessings and salaams on the Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sall

Closed doors and Illusions that blind us

As Salamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh, Kindly share this article with more readers. Yasmin Moghahed Yesterday my 22 month old sought to exercise his independence. After climbing out of his car seat, he wanted to shut the car door like a big boy, so I stood there watching over him. Realizing that if I left him to shut the door, his little head would have gotten slammed in the process, I lifted him away, and shut the door myself. This devastated him, and he broke down in tears. How could I prevent him from doing what he so badly wanted to do? Watching the incident, a strange thought crossed my mind. I was reminded of all the times this had happens to us in life—when we want something so badly, but Allah does not allow us to have it. I was reminded of all the times we as adults felt this same frustration when things just wouldn’t work out the way we so desperately wanted them to. And then suddenly, it was so clear. I had only taken my son away from the door to protect him. But he
