Importance of morning prayers { Fajr salah }

Fajr means dawn in the Arabic language. The Fajr (Arabic: فجر) ) prayer is the first of the five daily prayers recited by practicing Muslims. The fajr prayer (before dawn) is a time when many people are heedless and sleeping. Its mentioned in a hadith that Fajr prayers are difficult on a hypocrite. In order to make the effort to rise for fajr, the first thing we must do is understand the great status this prayer time holds, both as a time of the day, and amongst the five obligatory prayers. In the Qur’an, Allah Most High says: Establish the Prayers (Zuhr [Midday], ‘Asr [Afternoon], Maghrib [Sunset] and ‘Isha [Evening]) from the declining of the sun till deep darkness of the night. And also (make obligatory) the recitation of Fajr Prayer, for the Qur’an in Fajr (Dawn) Prayer is attended (by the angels and a state of divine consciousness also permeates). ►[Surah Bani Israi’l ,Chapter 17:Verse 78] The meaning of witnessed here means that both the angels of [previous] n

Seven productive habits to develop you spiritually

We should aim to develop the following seven spiritually productive activities into our habits so that we can hopefully continue benefitting from them throughout our lives. These activities are the spiritual `bread and butter' of a Muslim. To develop them as habits is the essence of embarking on a journey towards achieving the love of Allah and constantly increasing your Iman, Insha Allah: 1) Pray the Sunnah prayers It's easier to just pray the obligatory prayers and rush out of the mosque! However, when we realize the rewards we're missing from not praying Sunnah prayers, we will never leave them. There's only one way of getting yourself to pray these Sunnah prayers constantly: Get into the habit of praying them! They'll soon become a part and parcel of your Salah and your Salah will feel incomplete without performing these Sunnah prayers. 2) Remembrance of Allah after Salah How long does it take to recite the supplications after Salah? Around five to seven

Gratefulness: A Blessing in Disguise

Scene 1 A heartbroken mother sat silently, staring at her 27-week-old baby’s motionless body. Already inflicted with depression prior to pregnancy, she now most likely had to cope with losing a child, the biggest pain any woman could ever bear with. She was tearless, for tears were not enough to describe her sorrow. Having gone through a long period of problematic pregnancy complicated with pre-eclampsia and diabetes, giving birth to a premature, sick baby was the last thing she wanted. On that day, her baby suddenly deteriorated in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. A group of pediatricians rushed to the scene and cardiopulmonary resuscitation was performed for more than half an hour. But God’s decree was invincible. The baby passed away, returning to her merciful Creator. Scene 2 A premature male baby was in the baby cot in the ward. He was gaining weight, feeding well and thriving. The doctors could not discharge him yet. The reason? His mother had just died two days

Animals right in Islam

WE BEGIN WITH THE SAYING OF THE PROPHET MUHAMMAD(S.A.W): May the Most Merciful have mercy on those who are merciful. Have mercy on those upon the earth, and He who is above the heaven will have mercy on you.” [Al-Jaami' (1924), Al-Sunan-ul-Kubraa (9/41); Al-Asmaa' was-Sifaat (893)]   THE MENTIONING OF ANIMALS, BIRDS ETC IN QURAN Although there are over 50 verses alone in the Quran speaking about Animals or relating to Animals (insects, birds etc) and six chapters named after Animals The traditions (hadeeth) of the prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) regarding animal rights are far more numerous in number and words thus making it not feasible to count every word or hadeeth like Quran. Is there another Book of God or religion sharing this in their Religious book or Word of God (e.g Quran)? "There is not an animal on earth, nor a bird that flies on its wings, but they are communities like you.". (Quran 6:38). "See thou not that it is God Whose praises all be
The Takbeer begins on the first day of Dhu’l-Hijjah and lasts until sunset on the last of the days of tashreeq (13th of Dhul Hijjah). Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There are no days that are greater before Allaah or in which good deeds are more beloved to Him, than these ten days, so recite a great deal of tahleel, takbeer and tahmeed during them.” Narrated by Ahmad, 7/224; its isnaad was classed as saheeh by Ahmad Shaakir. One of the Takbeer is as follows: Allaahu akbar, Allaahu akbar, laa ilaaha ill-Allaah, wa Allaahu akbar, Allaah akbar, wa Lillaah il-hamd  (Allaah is Most Great, Allaah is most Great, there is no god but Allaah, Allaah is Most great, Allaah is most great, and to Allaah be praise).

First ten days of Dhul-Hijjah

Today is first of Dhul-hijjah Prophet Muhammad (ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, "There are not any days that are holier than these ten days of Dhu’l-Ḥijjah. Therefore increase in doing good deeds to Allah, and increase in saying laa ilaha illAllah (there is no deity but God), and saying Allahu Akbar (God is Greater), and saying alhamdulillah (all praise be to God)." ~ [Musnad Imam Ahmad]

5 simple sunnahs you ought to be doing

Bismillah Walhamdulillah Was Salaatu Was Salaam 'ala Rasulillah As-Salaam Alaikum Wa-Rahmatullahi Wa-Barakatuhu 5 Simple Sunnahs You Ought To Be Doing Are you ready to become a better Muslim? Do you think you can be a much better Muslim and a stronger believer than what you currently are? If you âre ready to take your faith to the next level, then take a few minutes to ponder this hadith Allah said: My servant does not draw nearer to Me with anything more beloved to me than with the obligatory actions (in Islam). And My servant continues to draw near to me with voluntary acts so that I love him. When I love him, I am his hearing that he hears with, his seeing he sees with, his hand he strikes with and his foot he walks with. Were he to ask of Me, I would surely give it to him and were he to seek refuge in Me, I will surely give him refuge. Allah loves it when we fulfill the obligatory things He has ordained on us. These are things like:

A muslim is passionetly devoted - Part 2

Therefore, someone who turns a deaf ear to the deceptions of satan’s and gives to those in need is actually behaving in the best way for himself. He receives the reward for spending on Allah’s path, and also further abundance. On the other hand, the believer’s aim in giving is not to obtain more for himself, because what counts is the pure intention behind that giving. Therefore, it is the fact that this obligation is performed with a love of Allah, with sincerity , expecting no reward and with pure intentions that validates it in the Sight of Allah. Another example Allah gives in the Qur’an on this subject is: " The metaphor of those who spend their wealth, desiring the pleasure of Allah and firmness for themselves, is that of a garden on a hillside. When heavy rain falls on it, it doubles its produce; and if heavy rain does not fall, there is dew. Allah sees what you do. (Surat al-Baqara, 265) Believers Regard Assets As a Means by Which to Give Thanks and Draw Closer to

A muslim is passionately devoted not to his possessions but ---

Ibn Umar (Radi Allahu anhu) said: The Allah's Messenger (SalAllahu alaihi wasallam) said, "In the presence of three people, two should not hold secret counsel, to the exclusion of the third." Al-Bukhari and Muslim In Abu Dawud, Abu Salih related: I asked Ibn Umar: "What if there are four people," He said, "There is no harm in that." (This also means, in case of four person, three should not hold secret counsel to the exclusion of fourth person. Allah knows the best). Malik reported in Al-Muwatta that Abdullah bin Dinar related: Ibn Umar and I were together in Khalid bin Uqbah's house which was situated in the market place. A man came to consult Ibn Umar. None besides me was present. Ibn Umar called another man in and we became four and said to me and the man he had called: Move away a bit because I have heard the Allah's Messenger (SalAllahu alaihi wasallam) saying, "The two people should not hold secret counsel together excludi

Benefits of offering prayers 5 times a day

I would like to know the benefits of prayers? In other words, what do prayers add to Muslims? And how can a new Muslim boost his attachment to the five daily prayers? Thank you. Praying five times a day is considered so important to Muslims that we call it one of the Five Pillars of Islam. In other words, along with the declaration of faith, fasting in Ramadan, paying of Zakat and going on pilgrimage once in one's life to Makkah, prayer is considered essential if we are to call ourselves Muslims. As with everything in Islam, there is a reason behind all the things we do. Sometimes, if we don't understand these underlying reasons, many things can just appear as external rules and regulations. Modern men and women are not looking for extra burdens to put on their backs, so there is much more to praying than observing a regulation. Contrary to what many people think, there is much more to prayer than just asking for things! Of course, we ask things of Almighty God

“Orphans” …with Parents!

By Abu Muhammad Yusuf It’s a beautiful sunny day, Moosa and Fatima, two bubbly and vibrant 5 year old twins, try to draw their parent’s attention to the lovely sandcastles they had been constructing for hours in the garden. Dad is too busy viewing television and replying to emails on his Blackberry mobile while mum has for the last few hours been chatting with her friends and updating her Facebook page. Mum and dad, hardly take notice of their kid’s achievement. Both parents are usually so involved in their work and social environments that they “hardly” get time for their kids. Apart from the first four weeks  spent with mum after birth both Moosa and Fatima have ever since infancy been inhabitants of a day care centre. In the evenings  mum picks them up on her way back home from office. Dad returns usually late in the evening and both parents barely have time to interact with their kids before its time to sleep and wake-up again. A strange phenomenon of children with both par

The Husband Who Was Too Shy To Look At His Wife (a moving story)

This story was recounted by Prof. Khalid Al-Jubeir, consulting cardiovascular surgeon, in one of his lectures: Once I operated on a two and a half year old child. It was Tuesday, and on Wednesday the child was in good health. On Thursday at 11:15 am – and I’ll never forget the time because of the shock I experienced – one of the nurses informed me that the heart and breathing of the child had stopped. I hurried to the child and performed cardiac massage for 45 minutes and during that entire time the heart would not work. Then, ALLAH decreed for the heart to resume function and we thanked HIM. I went to inform the child’s family about his condition. As you know, it is very difficult to inform the patient’s family about his condition when it’s bad. This is one of the most difficult situations a doctor is subjected to but it is necessary. So I looked for the child’s father whom I couldn’t find. Then I found his mother. I told her that the child’s cardiac arrest was due to bleeding

The Smoke signal

By Abu Muhammad Yusuf The journey of life can be like a roller coaster. We often experience extreme conditions which create despondency and hopelessness. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) is reported to have said: “Verily, if Allah loves a people, He makes them go through trials. Whoever is satisfied, for him is contentment, and whoever is angry upon him is wrath." (Hadith-Tirmidhi) We have to try hard to embrace the struggles of life and Trust in Allah. There’s no development without pain. Life’s difficulties are necessary for our own development, so when they come along, accept them, embrace them and never ever lose hope and always place complete Reliance and Trust in Allah. Problems are to the mind what exercise is to the muscles; they toughen and make you strong. The only survivor of a shipwreck was washed up on a small, uninhabited island. He prayed feverishly for Allah to rescue him, and every day he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed fort

Building a Relationship with the Quran

Certain basic states and attitudes of heart and mind are a necessary prerequisite to any fruitful relationship with the Qur'an. Develop them as much as you can. Make them part of your consciousness, keep them ever-alive and active. Integrate them in your actions. Let them penetrate the depth of your being. Without the help of these inner resource you will not receive your full measure of the Qur'an's blessings. They will be your indispensable companions, too, throughout your journey. These inner resources are neither difficult nor impossible to find. Through constant awareness and reflection, through appropriate words and deeds, you can acquire and develop them. The more you do so, the closer you will be able to come to the Qur'an; the closer you come to the Qur'an, the greater will be your harvest. Faith : The Word of Allah  : First Come to the Qur'an with a strong and deep faith that it is the word of Allah, your Creator and Lord. This book is no ordin
