Hold smiles

The Sultan of Arabia had grown very fond of Mulla Nasruddin and often took him along on his travels. Once, while on a journey, the Royal caravan approached a small nondescript town in the desert.

On a whim the Sultan said to the Mulla, “I wonder if people would know me in this small place. Let us stop my entourage here and enter the town on foot, and then we’ll know if they can recognize me”.

Accordingly, they dismounted and walked down the main road of the town. The Sultan was surprised to see that many people smiled at Nasruddin but ignored him completely.
Irritated and a trifle angry, he said, “I see that the people here know you but they don’t know me!”

“They don’t know me either Your Excellency”, replied the Mulla.

“Then why did they smile at you only?” questioned the Sultan.

“Because I smiled at them.” said Nasruddin, smiling.

Reflection

Courtesy and respect are mutually reinforcing
If some doesn’t greet we should greet them. You are not going to loose any thing

Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) said: “If you have nothing to give, give a kind word or even just an affectionate smile.”

“You cannot treat people by means of your wealth; hence, you should treat them by means of your moral conduct”

Thought to add this good saying

"A smile costs nothing but gives much. It enriches those who receive without making poorer those who give. It takes but a moment, but the memory of it sometimes lasts forever. None is so rich or mighty that he cannot get along without it and none is so poor that he cannot be made rich by it. Yet a smile cannot be bought, begged, borrowed, or stolen, for it is something that is of no value to anyone until it is given away. Some people are too tired to give you a smile. Give them one of yours, as none needs a smile so much as he who has no more to give" - Author Unknown
